ABOUT NAED SMITH — This retreat is dedicated to the memory of Naed Smith (who died on May 10, 2019). Naed was a dedicated activist, a Catholic Worker and peace pilgrim in the Allison Hill Community for the past 20 years where he regularly delivered food and cared for people, also creating vegetable and food gardens there. He was a tireless worker and activist on behalf of the poor and oppressed, and was also a frequent visitor to Nature’s Way where he participated in meditation and the wonders of the plant-human connection. This retreat honors the six month anniversary of Naed’s death. For more information about Naed or the retreat contact Libby Tisdell at ejt11@psu.edu

ABOUT THE RETREAT AND ITS LEADERS — This day long retreat, will focus on freeing the heart through Heart Rhythm Meditation, on meditating on nature and bonsai trees in the natural surroundings at Nature’s Way, the role of music in enhancing meditation, and the magic of the plant human exchange.

Heart Rhythm Meditation (HRM) is an ancient form of meditation that integrates attention to body, mind, heart, and spirit. In the practice of HRM (updated and refreshed by Puran and Susannah Bair, founders of the Institute of Applied Meditation), one syncs the full breath to the beat of the heart. HRM focuses on both the physical and metaphorical heart.

ABOUT THE RETREAT LEADERS — Dr. Charles Palmer, is a physician and former Chief of the Division of Newborn Medicine at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, Hershey, PA, and has been practicing HRM with Puran and Susannah Bair since 2010, and has been teaching HRM in the local community since 2013. Dr. Libby Tisdell is a Professor of Adult Education at Penn State University (PSU) —

Harrisburg, and a musician, who has been practicing HRM since 2013. She teaches classes on Meditation and Embodied Learning both at PSU and in the local community. Jim Doyle is a horticulturalist and Bonsai Artist, and the owner of Nature’s Way Nursery and Bonsai Studio. Jim regularly conducts workshops related to bonsai and Japanese- inspired garden design.

Classes are limited and will be honored on a first come, first serve basis. A non-refundable deposit of 50% -or- payment in full is required to register for class. Most classes fill up, so your early response is recommended.
